Squirl Collection: Vintage Surf and Skate

This is a growing collection of my vintage skate and surf stuff. For the purpose of this collection, I'm defining vintage as anything that is more than twenty years old.

Truth be told, some of the t-shirts in this collection are my wife's, and she has generously allowed me to include them here. Perhaps she'll let me put some of her vintage shoes in a collection, too. Thanks Imelda, I love you.

It is Australia-centric, with extended pictorials and pieces on surfers like Midget Farrelly, Bob McTavish, Wayne Lynch, Terry Fitzgerald, and Nat Young.

Check out this, from the Appendix: "stoked: excited or jazzed, usually about the surf."

It is seriously frayed, the threads have gone bare in many places, the collar is falling off. You will get looks of approval from those in the know if you strut down the Venice boardwalk in this sucker ;)

These shirts were purchased by a small group of coastal inhabitants, and an even smaller group of inland kids who were plugged in.

Wouldn't you love to rock this out to your local surf spot? This was probably made at the very beginning of the neon craze, when wetsuits were pink and white and all sorts of garish colors. This is understated in comparison.

I think I've worn it too much. It's got a great fit, and I love the small sewn-on label on the front of the shirt, on the hem. Did you know that you can ski in Hawaii?
