Squirl Privacy Policy

Squirl will not share or sell your name, email address, or other uniquely identifying information unless you give us explicit permission to do so.

Squirl automatically receives and records information on our server logs from your browser, including your IP address, Squirl cookie information, and the page you request. Squirl uses that information to customize the advertising and content you see, to fulfill your requests for products and services, to improve our services, and to provide anonymous reporting of aggregated information (such as number of page views) for internal and external use.

Because some Squirl features interact with other services and web sites like Amazon and Google, we sometimes exchange generic non-personal information in order to provide those services. All those exchanges are listed below:

  • When squirl users import information about things like books, movies, or cds, we get that information from outside sources. As of August 2006 our only outside data provider is Amazon, though that is subject to change. So if you do a search a book or movie, that search term is sent to Amazon. No personally identifying information is sent.
  • We use Google to display ads on some pages. Google indexes those pages so that the ads displayed are relevant to the material on them. No information is provided by Squirl other than what's visible on the page.

If Squirl ever wants to use your information in any way other than what is described above, we'll ask your permission first. And in the unlikely event this privacy policy is ever altered, we'll notify you of the changes in advance. The only exception to that is if we're legally required to surrender information to state or federal governments.

We consider your personal information to be yours; we are only stewards of it. If you have any questions on or comments about how squirl handles privacy issues, please contact us at privacy@squirl.info.
